What is Bookshop?
Bookshop.org is a platform connecting readers like you with independent bookstores all over the place! It’s a great way to buy books and support small businesses, which we laud here at the WOC Writers’ Circle. It started right before COVID and since then, has helped hundreds of bookstores keep their doors open. It’s a great way to support your favorite authors while not lining the pockets of big chain stores.
Right now, Bookshop only ships in the US, but they are working on taking things international as they continue to grow. For more information about them and their mission, check out their about page.
Why do we have one?
We are working on growing and becoming a nonprofit. Our bookshop supports our authors, our mission and our operations. How? We showcase books by our authors, we place books by women of color at the forefront of our store and we use the monies to go towards the business processes of becoming a nonprofit! We have quite a few books by our own authors as well as books we have read and loved. From poetry to YA to nonfiction to graphic novels, we want to support these authors. And we want to do it in a way that doesn’t support some of the big stores that refuse to acknowledge them.
