Taking Breaks

 You might be wondering what this blog post is about. And then again, perhaps you aren’t. I tried to make the title as clear-cut as possible but for many people those two words mean very different things. So, to reiterate, this is just a reminder of the importance of taking breaks, even as a writer. Especially as a writer. As well as some fun and potentially helpful ideas on how to do so.

Ways That You Can Take A Break

  1. Go for a walk.
  2. Read a book.
  3. Binge watch a new series on your streaming service of choice.
  4. Bake your favorite dessert. Or go out and buy it! Lol, no worries!
  5. Take a nap.
  6. Color. Coloring isn’t only for kids and it can be quite relaxing.
  7. Game night! Remember your friends? This lengthy pandemic might make you feel a bit separated from them, but they can definitely help you get out of your head (and away from your manuscript).
  8. Treat yourself. Whether this be to dinner or to a new outfit, the choice is yours!

Everyone needs to take breaks. Even Olympians have cheat days. Without them, they couldn’t continue to improve and maintain their peak performance. Writign burnout is real and it can be pretty serious as well. That being said, I hope that these tips find you (or someone you know) well and that you take some time to simply enjoy life. That way, when you get back to your current work, it isn’t because you have to or because you will feel guilty if you don’t, it is because you feel refreshed and truly want to.
