This writing circle was started in order to showcase and support women of color in the writing endeavors regardless of whether they were working on their first book or their twenty-first. That being said, we all know that the writing process can be grueling. And it doesn’t end when you’ve put down the pen. There are a lot of steps involved with publishing a book and one of them is finding a publisher. While you can always choose to self-publish, for those of us who prefer a more traditional method, here is a list of publishing companies and presses owned by women of color.
- Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press
- Jack Jones Literary Arts
- BLF Press
- Drop Leaf Press
- Jaded Ibis Press
- Minerva Rising Press
- Redbone Press
These are just a few companies that I think deserve a shoutout. Running a literary press or company is no easy feat. It eats up time and energy yet these companies understand that the work they are doing is important and can continue because of the support of their writers and volunteers.
There are probably a lot more, which is why I wanted to open the discussion up. Do you know a press or publishing company owned by a woman of color that should be on this list? Let us know down below and I will add it.
