Writing with others is great for a few reasons, you can get helpful critique, you are more likely to build up a healthy writing habit and you get to read some amazing work which helps generate ideas for your own. There are many other reasons why writing circles can benefit a writer and I just want to share some of them with you.
Getting Feedback
Have you ever written something and loved it the first or even the second time before realizing that maybe it wasn’t as good as you thought it was? Or have you been stuck in your writing without knowing exactly how you should move the plot along or what to do to get past writer’s block? Having a community of fellow writers definitely helps with this process! The writers in your circle can give you feedback and even if you don’t use all of it or even use it at all, hearing ideas from others tends to help generate ideas!
Boost Writing Time
You are more likely to spend time writing if you have others working alongside you. Writing circles often have write-ins in which everyone writes together, this is a great opportunity to challenge yourself to write more.
Once you create a steady habit of writing, you are more likely to finish that book or script or play and share it with the world!
Build Community
Everyone needs community. We all have a sense of longing to be around others who just get us, that is nothing new nor is it anything to be ashamed of. Writing circles are often filled with people from different walks of life, with different experiences and beliefs who share a common hobby: writing. Having a place to talk about something you love doing is a great gift. And many writers are the only ones in their respective families so having the opportunity to talk and share stories about a passion is one of the best reasons to be a part of a writing circle or group.
What are some of the reasons you decided to join a community of writers?
